Climate Action Incentive Payment

Also known as “Carbon Tax” refunds, the CAIP is a tax-free quarterly payment available to all residents in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba & Ontario. Quarterly payments are in April, July, October, and January each year which means you must file your personal tax returns by around mid-March to receive that April payment. You should receive a double payment in July if your taxes are filed on time by the end of April.

**NEW IN 2023**

Residents in rural areas will receive a 20% top up to their CAIP payments based on the 2023 personal tax filings, up from 10% previously. And beginning July 2023 the following provinces will begin receiving CAIP: Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick.
